Kevin Lee has released an apology on missing weight for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 128 main event.

Atlantic City, NJ — The UFC Atlantic City (UFC Fight Night 128) weigh-ins early Friday were thrown for a loop when headliner Kevin Lee missed weight for the main event. A clearly dejected Lee, subsequent to posing for the media in attendance, could be seen slumped in a chair behind the scenes after stepping off the scale, commenting that he had not missed weight all the way back to high school.

With a little time to compose himself, Lee released a brief statement on his official Instagram account, apologizing to opponent Edson Barboza, the UFC, and promotion President Dana White. He also reiterated the high school comment, saying ultimately that he had just run out of time.

Lee stepped on the scales at Bally’s in Atlantic City, NJ with just minutes to spare prior to the 11:00 AM cut-off. There was no two-hour allowance to make the weight, as all fighters were required to have made the limit by 11 AM (had Lee weighed in earlier in the morning, he could have made a second attempt).

In his statement, Lee said that “For the first time ever in my athletic career since high school I’ve missed weight this morning. I just ran outta time.”

The main event will move forward as planned, however. Lee will forfeit twenty percent of his purse to opponent Edson Barboza.
