With superfights between Demetrious Johnson and TJ Dillashaw, and Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes being discussed, champions Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will actually fight at UFC 226.

The UFC announced the matchup along with the details of the 27th season of The Ultimate Fighter earlier today.

Daniel Cormier was once an undefeated heavyweight, until he moved to 205-pounds to avoid his teammate, then-champion Cain Velasquez. With Velasquez fighting just once since 2016, it seems that Cormier no longer fears running into his training partner.

Both Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier defended their titles last weekend at UFC 220, with Cormier serving as the co-main event. Miocic dominated freak of nature Francis Ngannou over the course of 25 minutes, and Cormier finished his challenger, Volkan Oezdemir, within 10 minutes from the mounted crucifix.

Daniel Cormier was 13-0 at heavyweight, and has since gone 7-1 at 205-pounds, only losing to Jon Jones (one loss was overturned). Cormier is a former Olympian and has defended his current belt three times. DC is known for his Olympic-level wrestling skills, and has steadily improved his striking throughout the course of his career.

Stipe Miocic has been fantastic in the UFC, with 12-2 record, eight performance bonuses, and eight stoppage victories. Miocic is on a six-fight win streak and has defended his title three times. Miocic is an incredibly well-rounded fighter with strong wrestling ability and vicious punching power.

UFC 226 will be the capstone of this year’s International Fight Week and will take place on July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier will headline the card, and no other fights have been planned for the event yet.

TUF 27 will feature a cast of fighters from the lightweight and featherweight division that all have a zero in the loss column. The season debuts on FOX Sports 1 on Wednesday, April 18.
