Two fan-favorite brawlers will meet about five years too late when Carlos Condit fights Matt Brown in April.

Damon Martin of MMA Weekly first reported the matchup.

Carlos Condit and Matt Brown were scheduled to fight once before in 2013. Both fighters were in their primes and it seemed to be an immediate Fight of the Year candidate, but Brown unfortunately injured his back and the bout was scrapped. Now in 2018, both men have flirted with retirement and are seemingly approaching the end of their careers.

Carlos Condit was as close as it gets to being crowned the UFC welterweight champion back in 2016. His five-round war with Robbie Lawler resulted in a split decision loss, and many believe the wrong man had his hand raised that night. Since then, Condit has come out flat in a pair of matchups against Demian Maia and most recently Neil Magny.

Matt Brown stopped a three-fight losing streak last November with a brutal overhand elbow knockout of fellow veteran Diego Sanchez. Since losing a title-eliminator bout against Robbie Lawler in 2014, “The Immortal” has gone 2-4, with both wins coming in the first round.

In terms of excitement, it doesn’t get much better than Brown and Condit. Condit has participated in five Fights of the Night and has been awarded Performance of the Night twice. Brown, on the other hand, has three Fight of the Night awards and three Performance of the Night bonuses, as well as the most finishes in the UFC welterweight division with 11.

For proper context, when the bout was scheduled in 2013, Matt Brown was in the midst of a five-fight win streak, and Carlos Condit had won six of his last eight and had already received a title shot against Georges St. Pierre three fights prior.

There is no word on the location of this UFC Fight Night, but it will take place on April 14. Stay tuned to Cageside Press for more updates on this upcoming card.
