UFC Oklahoma City arrives on Saturday, and Friday morning, all fighters hit the scales for the Fight Night event, headlined by a middleweight match-up between ex-champ Dricus Di Plessis and Kamaru Usman.
Yes, Usman is returning to 185lbs for the fight, after winning a decision over Joaquin Buckley at welterweight last time out. The former welterweight champion had been pursuing a title fight at 170lbs with Islam Makhachev, and both parties appeared interested. The UFC, however, opted to book Makhachev against Ian Machado Garry, with that fight set to arrive next month. So it’s back to middleweight for Usman, whose foray into the division against Khamzat Chimaev did not go the way he had hoped.
Speaking of Chimaev, Du Plessis will be competing for the first time since losing his title to “Borz” (who then dropped it to Sean Strickland) last time out.
