Ronnie Gibbs Announces Arrival With Upset Victory At PFL Chicago

PFL lightweight Ronnie Gibbs scored an upset submission victory over Biaggio Ali Walsh at the PFL World Tournament semis in front of his hometown of Chicago, IL.

Gibbs (2-0) fought on the big stage in front of his city for the first time. It was everything he hoped it would be.

“It meant everything. To come out finally get the opportunity to do what I’ve been doing in front of my city and in front of my people,” Gibbs told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.

“Sh*t, my mom came to this one. My mom told me don’t let him up my face and I think we did a good job.”

Gibbs was a +700 underdog for the fight. It made upset victory that much sweeter knowing even the books doubted him.

“Oh yeah we f*cked up a lot parlays tonight,” he said with a grin.

The victory was also about putting his name on the MMA map. With the win over Ali Walsh he may have done that at least in PFL.

“It’s a statement. It’s about showing people who I am. Sh*t even ya’ll. Ya’ll walked right past me until tonight. I did what I was supposed to do,” he said.

“I introduced the game to the art of finesse. Now, I’m not just Ronnie Gibbs. I’m the emperor of finesse.”
