Christopher Ewert’s UFC career is over before it even got started.
On Friday, Ewert was reportedly a solid 10 pounds heavy for his short-notice fight with Jackson McVey, though he did not officially weigh in. Instead, it was announced during the official weigh-ins that the fight was off – and that Ewert had been released by the promotion.
Ewert had originally been booked for a fight on Dana White’s Contender Series in August, but had dropped out of the match-up to sign directly to the UFC, replacing Sedriques Dumas this Saturday. Instead, Ewert is now out of the UFC, and it seems unlikely, though not impossible, that he’d end up back on DWCS after blowing weight so badly.
Jon Anik announced the news early in the weigh-in window. McVey did weigh in, successfully making weight. “The company will try to book him in short order,” Anik also added in his announcement.
Christopher Ewert is an undefeated 7-0 prospect in the middleweight division. McVey holds a similar record at 6-0.
UFC 317 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, June 28, 2025 and is headlined by a lightweight title fight featuring Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira vying for the belt vacated by Islam Makhachev. The card caps off this year’s International Fight Week.
