Joshua Silveira Has New Motivation, Weight Class, Going Into Semifinals

PFL middleweight Joshua Silveira feels he’s finally in the weight class he belongs in as he faces Fabian Edwards in the PFL World Tournament Semifinals in Chicago on Friday.

Silveira (14-4) moves down to 185 pounds and says he’s feeling better than ever.

“Now that I’m in this new weight class I just feel a lot better. I feel like an actual professional athlete,” Silveira told Cageside Press among other reporters on Wednesday.

“I don’t haver to necessarily force myself to try new things because these guys are larger. We’re about the same size now and my shape is amazing. I lost about 37 pounds just off the rip. Just from dropping to the weight class.”

“Just to have 37-40 pounds off me completely it’s a huge difference. I got rid of this thing in 4-5 months. I’m a completely new person now.”

It isn’t just a new weight class that has Silveira chomping at the bit to compete against Edwards. A new addition to the family has added fuel to the fire going into the fight in Chicago.

“Having a child changes your life a lot. 100%. I don’t know what it is man but the new weight class, I’m a dad now, changes in my life. I don’t know exactly the feelings I’m feeling, but they feel good and I love it,” he said.

“I’m learning to embrace it. I have this human that I got to take care of, and I love her so much man. I love her so much. This is my first time being away from her right now and it’s driving me nuts. I’m doing everything for her 100%.”
