LFA strawweight Gigi Canuto is all about the fight life and it showed against Flor Hernandez at LFA 211 on Friday night.
At 22-years-old Canuto (6-1) has already had more fights than many fighters who make their way to DWCS or other promotions. For such a young fighter it’s clear that MMA has become her life.

“It’s a weird age to be honest because you’re not 25 but you’re not 20 anymore. So you’re kind of just like panicking and you’re like, ‘I need to grow up’. It’s a time that you really want to have fun,” Canuto told Cageside Press following her first round submission victory over Hernandez at LFA 211.
“I started Jits when I was 6-years-old so literally like my life is fighting. Fighting is actually the most fun thing that I do. I would rather stay in or go to training and fight. This is my type of having fun.”
5 of her 6 MMA victories have come by first round stoppage. The arm bar she put on Hernandez finished the fight 1:49 into the first round making it the quickest finish of her career.
With that kind of resume Canuto could get a call from the UFC for Contender Series. Unlike most 22-year-olds however she’s not in any type of a hurry to get there.
“I’m 22 so I’m still a baby. I started this when I was 18. Literally 17, training MMA, and then 18 I was like ‘f*ck it, I’ll do it’. I’ve been just working on getting better every day,” she said.
“Doing my best with what I have and if the call comes then I’m happy. If it doesn’t I’ll just keep working and it will eventually come.”
