The returning Gabe Green was set to welcome Matheus Camilo to the octagon at UFC Vegas 106 on Saturday.

The lightweight fight served as the Fight Night event’s featured prelim, and found Green in action for the first time since he was knocked out by Bryan Battle in May of 2023. That fight had come at welterweight; Green was dropping to lightweight for his return, a weight class he had competed in early in his career.

Round one saw a lot of movement from both guys and a feeling-out process. Camilo was the one throwing early with the kicks and the hooks. Green was trying to use feints to get Camilo to react but the Brazilian wasn’t biting on anything. A nice right hook to the body came from Camilo. Green was doing a nice job of moving his head and making Camilo chase him. And when Camilo did rush in it seemed like he got clipped by a check right hook dropping him to a knee. He was still able to put Green against the cage and eventually got the takedown, and that’s where the round ended. Camilo arguably did enough to win the round.

In round two, Green was putting pressure on Camilo. Camilo landed a hook over the top and Green launched forward with a flying knee. He missed and put himself back into a takedown from Camilo. Camilo was moving into mount from side control and as Green went to moved Camilo locked in a triangle. He rolled to his back and it was in there good. Green wasn’t giving up as he slammed Camilo down and eventually escaped. It was Green’s turn to threaten Camilo as he was able to scramble to the back and put on the body triangle. The rear-naked choke followed. A potentially defeated Camilo (after the missed triangle) soon tapped as Green cranked on the neck.

Official Result: Gabe Green def. Matheus Camilo by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 2, 3:43
