Flyweight Road to UFC winner Hyun Sung Park took on Carlos Hernandez on the UFC Vegas 106 prelims on Saturday.
The undefeated South Korean Park was looking to improve to 10-0 after winning his first two UFC fights (though one of those was his Road to UFC final).
Park held center early in the fight, walking Hernandez down. Hernandez circled on the outside and at times pressed forward, but Park stayed in his face, far more effective in his striking. Moments later, he proved he had the edge in the wrestling department, landing a takedown. He quickly got a body locked in place, then fished an arm under the neck. The rear-naked choke was in tight, and Carlos Hernandez was in a world of discomfort. He had no choice but to tap, and Hyun Sung Park suddenly had his tenth victory as a professional, and fifth career submission.
With nine of Park’s ten fights/wins ending inside the distance, it appears the flyweight division has a real prospect on its hands in the South Korean. “I want to be really active, and I’m ready for anyone,” Park said following the win, setting his sights on ranked opponents.
Official Result: Hyun Sung Park def. Carlos Hernandez by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 2:26
