Denis Frimpong silenced a lot of doubters and critics at Oktagaon 68 with a dominant unanimous decision win over German prospect Robin Frank.

Ahead of the fight, the Irishman had received a lot of hate, mainly following the fallout of the Paddy Pimblett sparring video, which saw him choked out. Not to mention due to a severe mismatch in his last fight.

Frimpong channeled that animosity and made a statement at Oktagon 68. Two 30-27 scorecards and a 30-26 scorecard were handed down by the judges following three rounds with Frank. Frimpong appeared to have mentally broke Robin Frank ahead of the fight, and then broke him physically in the fight.

After the bout, Denis Frimpong shared “Project Jon Jones.” Frimpong is expecting his son at the end of May, and took this fight, despite being in the month of Ramadan, to return to competition, and earn cash for the baby. Frimpong also talked about getting another fight in at the end of April, so that he can get a Stroller and a Cot for the baby.

With a win over Robin Frank, Frimpong finds himself closing in on the top ten. A fight against a top ten ranked opponent is certainly feasible, but Frimpong appears dead set on wanting to face Arjan Topallaj. Topallaj was supposed to face Frimpong at Oktagon 68, but pulled out relatively soon after the announcement with a staph infection.

The pair of lightweights had a brief altercation in the VIP section, where they Topallaj pushed Frimpong and said “Let’s fight now.” Cooler heads prevailed, but a fight with Topallaj makes sense, potentially for the late April Oktagon MMA card in Karlovy Vary, or the May card in Munich, depending on the timeline of the birth of his son.
