Tai Tuivasa On Sparring Poatan: “Got the sh*t punched out of me”

Perth – UFC heavyweight Tai Tuivasa got some sparring in with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira as he gets set to face another heavy-hitter in Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 305 on Saturday night.

“It was kind of my first training session back and I got the sh*t punched out of me,” Tuivasa told reporters on Wednesday.

“I think I left the a few days after that to Dubai and I was like f*ck I better go train.”

Tuivasa (14-7) is used to taking big shots from opponents, but he sparred Poatan cold without a training.

“His power was…I’m fighting heavyweight so we can take a punch or two, but it was more I hadn’t been training. I went in and I was f*cking running out of breath and getting the sh*t punched out of me,” Tuivasa said with a grin.

“But that’s the sport we do. It’s all fun and games.”

With Rozenstruik the fans can expect an all hands affair with both men preferring to strike and skip the grappling.

“I supposed it’s a good fight for both of us. I’ve been watching him for a while now,” he said.

“They’re usually the fights I like to take and challenge myself. I’m looking forward to it.”
