Rio de Janeiro – UFC lightweight Mauricio Ruffy made such an impression during his victory over Jamie Mullarkey at UFC 301 that people began to compare him to one of the biggest names in the history of MMA.
“I don’t mind being compared to Conor McGregor,” Ruffy told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator on Saturday night.
“The guy had a great history in UFC. He’s a guy who taught everyone how to make money in fights. Thanks everyone who is saying that.”
Ruffy (10-1) put on an impressive performance in front of the crowd in Rio de Janeiro, but then shared a message of hope in his post-fight interview. The UFC newcomer expressed hope for all who are dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts.
“Three years ago I went through some really bad moments. I had several injuries which really made me wonder if this was the right career that I should follow. There were days that I just didn’t want to get out of bed. I did not want to wake up,” Ruffy said.
“But then I found Jesus and he overturned my life. He cured my wife from not being able to get pregnant and I just thank him everyday now. He really changed my life.”
