Diego Lopes Wanted Tough Matchup With Yusuff

Las Vegas – UFC featherweight Diego Lopes has burst onto the scene in a major way in such a short time, and his reward is a matchup with Sodiq Yusuff at UFC 300 on Saturday night.

“Listen there was a surprise to everything (that) happened, but I do think that I’ve done a lot of things that means I’ve been doing a good job,” Lopes told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator on Wednesday.

“That’s what brought me this opportunity. Very happy, very grateful, for the UFC to have given me this opportunity.”

Lopes (23-6) will take on Yusuff on the historic UFC 300 card in the prelims. Upon hearing his opponent’s name Lopes was happy that he got that type of matchup at T-Mobile Arena.

“I like the fight because I mean he’s a tough guy, one of the best guys in the division, and I said this. If you want to be champion you have to fight the biggest guys, the toughest guys in the division,” Lopes said.

“Actually last year during an interview people asked me who would you like to fight and I said Soqid or Alex Caceres. There you go they got me him.”
