After back-to-back No Contests due to an overturned result and premature stoppage, Dan Arguetta was hoping to get an outcome that stuck when he took on Jean Matsumoto at UFC Vegas 90.

The bantamweight bout arrived early on Saturday’s preliminary card and found Matusmoto boasting a perfect 14-0 record in his promotional debut.

It wasn’t to be for Dan. Jean Matsumoto came away with an impressive finish at UFC Vegas 90, putting away Arguetta with an arm-in guillotine in the second round. The bout opened up with Dan shooting and landing an early takedown after a tense face-off, working in right hands while Matsumoto looked to post up.

Eventually, the Brazilian did just that, moving back to his feet where he was answered with a volley of right hands from Arguetta. As for Dan, he went right back to the takedown, grounding Matsumoto moments later.

This time, Arguetta made it to mount, but Matsumoto swept and wound up back on his feet! From there, Matsumoto took the back of Arguetta while standing, then began to land hammerfists. Arguetta attempted to dump his opponent, but had no luck there, instead finding himself dragged down — though Arguetta would quickly work back to his feet.

Matsumoto then began looking for a takedown of his own, and upon being denied, finished the first frame with a high kick.

Round two saw Arguetta fall back on his gameplan of takedowns and damage. Matsumoto found success with his counterstriking, and later in the round landed a takedown of his own. They would end up back on the feet, trading again when Arguetta shot in on another takedown. That opened up the opportunity for Jean Matsumoto to lock up the guillotine, and he had it! 15-0 for Jean Matsumoto.

Official Result: Jean Matsumoto def. Dan Arguetta by submission (guillotine choke), Round 2, 4:59
