UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been a lightning rod for controversy over the course of his career, and it appears nothing on that front has changed.

Late Friday, ABQ RAW reported a concerning incident involving the UFC star, who resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to that report, during a drug sample collection carried out in late March, Jones threatened a Drug Free Sport sample collector with death, while appearing to be intoxicated.

Jones also reportedly attempted to grab the Drug Free Sport official’s cell phone.

The sample collector later reported the incident to police, who are now investigating the matter.

Drug Free Sport took over sample collection for the UFC from USADA, whose relationship with the UFC ended at the end of 2023.

Jones’ history is a checked one at best, outside of the cage. Multiple legal incidents have piled up over the years, including a hit and run that saw the UFC star hit a pregnant woman’s vehicle, then flee the scene on foot.

He was also charged with battery following an incident at a strip club in 2019, and with domestic battery immediately after his induction into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2021. Jones was inducted into the Fight Wing for his UFC 165 classic with Alexander Gustaffson.

Currently reigning has the UFC heavyweight champion, Jones has been stripped of titles by the promotion on three separate occasions due to a mixture of drug test failures and external incidents.

Jones is currently recovering from a torn pectoral muscle that took him out of his UFC 295 bout with Stipe Miocic last November. No timeline has been outlined for his return, but it is expected that Jon Jones will still face heavyweight great ex-champ Miocic when he does return to action.

Albuquerque Police Department officials and Jones’ representative did not respond to a request for comment by deadline. Story will be updated with their response when it arrives.
