Atlantic City, NJ — Featherweight Nate Landwehr reminded all those watching UFC Atlantic City this past Saturday why he’s quickly become a fan favorite.
Landwehr scored a violent knockout of Jamall Emmers in the event’s featured prelim, his own face a mask of blood when he landed the finishing blows.
“I just think this is what I was made to do, man. And it’s even more important to me now because I’ve got mouths to feed,” Landwehr (18-5) said following the win, speaking with media outlets including Cageside Press at the Boardwalk Hall. “Daddy Nate the Train out here. Enough said.”
Later, he would expand on that idea of being “made” to fight, reminded of a clip from earlier in the week that had him talking about being a gladiator in front of fans.
“Every time I fight, the fans get more than I’m worth. I go out there every time. I was born to fight, and this is my destiny,” exclaimed Landwehr. “This is what I’m supposed to do. You cut me, you know you’re real if you don’t touch it if you get cut. Most people, if they get cut they’re like ‘aww’ [mimes touching a cut]. But if you get cut, you don’t touch it, you know you’re about that life. So you heard it from me, I’m about it, so let’s go.”
Asked whether he goes out and tries to entertain the UFC fanbase, or whether it comes naturally to him, Landwehr couldn’t say for sure.
“It’s hard to say, because I’ve never not been me. I just fall into the role that I am.”
While he has some healing to do, Landwehr, who bounced back from a loss to Dan Ige in his win at UFC Atlantic City, sounds game to fight anyone. Including fellow Southern U.S. star Bryce Mitchell.
“Whoever man. We’ve got to figure out how long this cut is going to take to heal, and see what the UFC wants me to do. I’m a fighter, fighters fight, and I’m ready to go,” he stated. Asked specifically about Mitchell, “whatever they want,” replied Landwehr. “If they want that fight, that’s a good fight. He’s got a great following, he’s got his own swagger, I’ve got mine. I think that would be a good one.”
