Flyweights Jafel Filho and Ode Osbourne faced off Saturday’s UFC Vegas 88 preliminary card, with Filho looking to build off a recent win, and Osbourne hoping to bounce back from a loss to Assu Almabayev last time out.

While the speed of the 125’ers was on display in a few brief exchanges early, Filho wasted little time in taking the bout to the ground. While Osbourne attempted to defend, Filho was able to sweep, and then took the back, one hook in. Tight against the cage, Filho had trouble securing the position, but he remained in the driver’s seat, peppering Osbourne with left hands.

With a little bit of effort, Filho was finally able to get his opponent away from the fence and flatten him out. That forced Osbourne to roll, which in turn around Jafel Filho to move to mount. In the process, he slipped in a few heavy strikes, then worked the side while setting up an arm-triangle. Finally, Filho opted to just rain down ground n’ pound as Ode Osbourne tried to cover up. That created the opening for Filho to slip in the choke, and soon enough, Osbourne was forced to tap!

A first-round submission, and another rear-naked choke victory, for Jafel Filho.

Official Result: Jafel Filho def. Ode Osbourne by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 4:27
