In combat sports it seems that retirement is rarely final and former UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal may be adding to that list.

Eight months after retiring following his loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 Masvidal announced his return on X.

The timing is curious with matchmakers working on the upcoming UFC 300 card on April 13, but Masvidal does not have a lack of possible opponents for a return.

As far as a UFC return it’s possible that Masvidal gets a big matchup on that UFC 300 card, and fans would welcome his return. Other avenues include boxing, which Masvidal has mentioned before, and a possible run in BKFC. BKFC’s Mike Perry has called out Masvidal for a bare-knuckle bout.

Masvidal ended his MMA career on a 4-fight losing streak, but without a lack of star power in terms of opponents. Two consecutive losses to Kamaru Usman lead to a bitter bout with Colby Covington at UFC 272, and then the fight with Burns.

Violent victories over the likes of Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz have left fans wanting more from “Gamebred”.

Masvidal left it at “Unretired” in his post, but if he’s really coming back expect plenty of fanfare for his return.
