Johnny Walker Sees Title Shot With Win Over Ankalaev, Implores Him To Get ‘Better Personality’

This weekend at UFC 294 UFC light heavyweight Johnny Walker will look to extend his win streak to four in a row, as he takes on Magomed Ankalaev in Abu Dhabi.

The Brazilian’s last fight came in May when he picked up his second career win by decision, defeating Anthony Smith. Ankalaev on the other hand, hasn’t fought since December last year when he drew against Jan Blachowicz for the vacant 205lb title.

At UFC 294 media day, Walker gave his honest opinion on the Russian as a fighter and a personality.

“He’s a really dangerous fighter, he’s tough Russian guy and he’s number two in the world, what else can you say? He’s number two dangerous guy in the division. He’s very tough, imagine if someone beat him. If somebody beats him, this guy is going to be ready for the title shot next.

“He just has to be a little bit more, not terrible. People have to notice him, he’s very quiet, he doesn’t speak much he has to show more emotion. Do something to make people want to see him fight. He’s a good fighter already now he needs a little bit better personality.”

Of course the title is still vacant and the scheduled matchup between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will determine who will be the next champion. The winner of this fight could well see themselves fighting the winner of that particular matchup.

The 31-year-old commented on that upcoming fight and gave his prediction on how it will play out.

“I can’t predict the future because both are really good strikers, they can knock people out. One thing that I know that i’m sure is the fights not going to a decision, somebody’s going to get knocked out or submitted.”
