UFC Vegas 81: Jonathan Martinez Aiming for Top 10

Jonathan Martinez is riding a four-fight win streak heading into his fight with Adrian Yanez this coming Saturday at UFC Vegas 81.

His last win was an impressive victory over the awkward Said Nurmagomedov, back in March. That win saw him enter the top 15 rankings of the bantamweight division.

At the UFC Vegas 81 media day, Martinez (17-4) detailed the moment he found out he was fighting Adrian Yanez and admitted that ironically, they were together at the time.

“He’s a really good opponent. When his name came up I was just like, cause we were hanging out at International Fight Week but I know he was looking for an opponent and I was looking for one too, and now we’re fighting.”

The 29-year-old has already scored wins over some big names, like the aforementioned Nurmagomedov and Cub Swanson to add to that. He mentioned how he see’s Yanez as a big name too, and how that will go well in getting another big name next time out.

“Yeah a win with this is going to help a lot, I could go up to the top 10 next.”

“Dragon” Martinez fights out of one of the top gyms in the world, Factory X. A teammate of his, Marquel Mederos, already picked up a win this week earning himself a UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series. Martinez admitted that seeing Mederos pick up the win made him even more excited for his own fight.

“Man I was really excited, it kind of got me real excited for my fight, just watching him go in there and perform, I’m going to do the same thing on Saturday night.”
