Bellator 299’s Pedro Carvalho: Win Over Pico Should Lead to Interim Featherweight Title Fight

Bellator featherweight and SBG Ireland product Pedro Carvalho is looking to bounce back from his recent loss to Jeremy Kennedy, with a win over Aaron Pico at Bellator 299 this Saturday.

The loss to Kennedy came after an impressive win over Mads Burnell last September and unfortunately for the Portuguese fighter, he has struggled to string together wins.

On the lead up to this fight, Pico has expressed that he believes the fight with Carvalho will be straightforward, but Carvalho is unfazed by what the 26-year-old thinks saying during Thursday’s media day that “he’ll find out on Saturday.”

The Bellator featherweight king is currently Patricio Pitbull, who has recently suffered an injury that’ll likely sideline him for a considerable amount of time. Because of that, Carvalho believes an interim title could be introduced, and if he beats Pico, he will be one half of that future fight.

“For sure the next thing is an interim belt because Pitbull could be out until Summer next year, he’s not going to fight anytime earlier than that and I heard somewhere that Bellator is going to do an interim belt.

“It’s the obvious thing to do because Pitbull doesn’t defend his belt for quite some time and he’s going to be out for a good bit so it just makes sense to make an interim belt and to not hold up the division,” Carvalho said.

Whether there is truth to the fact that Bellator are looking at introducing an interim belt, it can be expected due to Pitbull’s lengthy injury, possibly heightening the stakes for this featherweight bout on Saturday.
