Paris, France – Not one to deal with trash talkers UFC bantamweight Taylor Lapilus took exception when he earned a decision victory over Caolan Loughran at UFC Paris on Saturday night.
Loughran had been talking trash about French MMA the entire week leading up to their fight at UFC Paris. Lapilus took the high road while at the same time stepping up to represent French MMA.
“My reaction was simply that I wanted to represent my country in the best possible way. I love my country particularly as he insulted it,” Lapilus told Cageside Press through a translator at his post-fight scrum.
“It was very important for me to represent it as best as possible, and I really wanted to win this fight.”
Loughran employed a takedown heavy game plan with plenty of control time, but it was Lapilus who got the advantage in the standup. Ultimately that won him the fight.
“I know the rules so I know that control time isn’t as important as damage time so I knew that whenever I had an opening that I had to create that damage. What I will say is I was surprised because I expected 80% of the fight to be striking, but Caolan decided to narrow the gap,” he said.
“Usually when a striker decides to do that then it’s a pretty good sign for his opponent.”
