How Guskov will fare in the UFC:

Guskov is a welcome addition to the light heavyweight division. His last loss came in 2020 against a tough veteran in Vyacheslav Vasilevskiy. If that flash knockout hadn’t happened Guskov would probably be in the UFC prior to this. Since that loss, Guskov has been on a four-fight win streak. Guskov has a 100% finish rate and eleven of those stoppages come in the first round.

Guskov has two submission wins but that’s not his strong suit. On the mat in general he’s not great but he is competent. His ground and pound is nasty and he does a good job of passing guard. It’s not bad at all and he could actually use it more in his future fights.

On the feet, Guskov is a dangerous man. Something he could improve is to keep his hands up. Saying that, it’s part of his style. Guskov throws with more power than technique. He does a really good job at throwing in twos. His jab-overhand is solid and so is his right hook to a left head kick. The straight punches are dangerous and his counter right hand is deadly. Even on the inside, he’s dangerous with knees and elbows.

Guskov I believe could be successful in the UFC. The only thing I’m not sure of is his chin. He’s been knocked out before and his hands being so low his chin is definitely going to be tested. His takedown defense is also questionable as he’s been taken down a few times but he’s gotten back up. Guskov has every chance of being a 50/50 fighter in the UFC but he also has a good chance of being a ranked fighter.

How he matches up with Oezdemir:

I’m not sure why Guskov is getting matched up with a veteran and former title challenger in his UFC debut. He is 1-3 in his last four but he’s been fighting the top guys of the division. Oezdemir has been fighting the best of the best in the division since he came to the UFC in 2017. The level of competition between the two is a massive gap in favor of Oezdemir. It’s nice to see a fresh name win in the division but experience means a lot in this fight. I’d imagine Guskov has to win by KO/TKO to win this fight. Oezdemir has been finished before but more often than not he’s been durable. His chin should be good enough to take the power shots and his cardio and experience should take over as the fight goes.
