Las Vegas, NV – UFC featherweight Cub Swanson has fought the who’s who in the promotion’s division, and now taking on Hakeem Dawodu at UFC Vegas 78 on Saturday night, he’s left wondering who else there is to fight.
“Each one is a different challenge. I hear people say it all the time ‘why don’t they give you somebody that’s as experienced as you?’,” Swanson told reporters including Cageside Press on Thursday.
“I’m like, who? There’s not too many. For me to fight at the highest level I can’t be picking and choosing. I feel like this is a very fair matchup.”
Swanson (28-13) takes on Dawodu who has had 9 fights in the UFC, but is still considered a prospect. Veteran fighters at 145-pounds seem to be scarce for Swanson.
“I don’t see there being a senior league or some crap like that, you know,” he said.
So he’ll continue taking on younger fighters, but it’s not something he sees as a negative. Dawodu may be the right opponent to make Swanson go hard.
“His skillset’s there. He’s mean, he’s dangerous, we’re both coming off of losses. We both need to go in there and prove something. Stylistically it’s a fun fight,” he said.
“But I felt that he was the right amount of dangerous to make me train hard.”
