UFC Charlotte: Court McGee is Well Rested, Trained and Ready to Put on a Show

Charlotte, NC — Welterweight Court McGee, winner of two of his last five fights, spoke on Wednesday at media day for UFC on ABC 4.

On Saturday at UFC Charlotte, 20-UFC fight veteran McGee (21-11) will take on Matt Brown in the featured preliminary card bout.

“I spent a little bit of time off, I mean that’s the first time I got stopped” McGee said speaking of his 94 second KO defeat at the hands of Jeremiah Wells last June. “It was the last thing on my mind going into that fight.”

“I got stopped seven years ago by Ponzinibbio but I didn’t go out so that was just like- oh wow. Okay. You know? It’s just never happened before.”

McGee expressed that because of the results of his last fight he took a little bit of time to heal up, spend time training and preparing tentatively for his next fight.

“And then spending a lot of time with my family, being busy running the foundation, The McGee Project, helping youth and young adults struggling with addiction,” McGee added answering a question on how he spent his 11-month hiatus from the UFC.

When McGee was asked about his initial reaction to fighting Matt Brown he stated, “Excited, kind of like when I fought Carlos Condit.”

“I know Matt, I actually met him at season 7 [The Ultimate Fighter] tryouts.” said Court, who wouldn’t make season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter but would instead go on to make and win season 11 of the show.

“We both push it to the limit we both have good gas tanks. We both put on exciting fights, you can expect fireworks.” McGee declared about his upcoming fight with Matt Brown.
