Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has hinted at a move to middleweight, with a shot at Israel Adesanya on his mind.

Following Adesanya’s thunderous performance at UFC 279 on Saturday, where he knocked out arch-nemesis Alex Pereira, Poland’s Blachowicz took to social media to suggest the freshly re-crowned middleweight champion pursue another rematch.

“Congratulations on a successful rematch, Stylebender,” Blachowicz wrote. If you want to try another one, you know where to find me. This time at middleweight for your belt.”

Adesanya and Blachowicz met in March of 2021 at UFC 259, where the then-light heavyweight champion successfully defended his title. The fight saw Blachowicz utilize his wrestling to neutralize the middleweight champ, who had moved up to pursue a second title.

The win was the first and only title defense for Blachowicz, who would lose the belt to Glover Teixeira in his very next fight. Since then, the now 40-year old fighter worked his way back to another shot at gold, only to fight to a draw against Magomed Ankalaev in December.

With another crack at the 205lb title, currently held by Jamahal Hill, a long shot at the moment, it seems Blachowicz may have set his sights down a division. The powerful light heavyweight has never fought at 185lbs, however, stating previously that he had never competed below 200 — but was willing to do so if a belt was on the line.
