Nikita Krylov and Ryann Spann top the UFC Vegas 70 card this Saturday in a light heavyweight main event.
Ranked #6 and #8 per the UFC’s official rankings, respectively, Krylov and Spann face off at an interesting time for the 205 pound division. With Jamahal Hill installed as champion, it would seem at first glance that the division is wide open. The spectre of Jon Jones has long since departed, as he’s set to make his heavyweight debut next month. Glover Teixeira, meanwhile, has retired after losing his bid to reclaim gold at UFC 283 last month.
Jiri Prochazka is waiting in the wings, however, and will almost certainly receive an immediate title shot upon his return. Leaving a number of contenders, from Krylov to Spann to former champ Jan Blachowicz to the winner of Anthony Smith vs. Johnny Walker later this year, all chomping at the bit to see who might be next.
Like last week’s Blanchfield vs. Andrade event, UFC Vegas 70 lacks a bit of star power. But the return of Tatiana Suarez, an Ultimate Fighter winner who has seen her career hampered by injury, is worth getting excited for. As is the night’s main event, a middleweight affair between Andre Muniz and Brendan Allen, two fighters more than comfortable on the mat.
Weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 70 take place Friday morning in Las Vegas; full results can be found below.
During Friday’s official weigh-in, promotion officials announced that due to illness, Hailey Cowan had been removed from the UFC Vegas 70 card. That fight is scrapped, after opponent Ailin Perez had successfully made weight.
