Yearly MMA Prospect Awards: 2022 in Review, Part 1

Bantamweight prospect of the year: Renat Khavalov (7-0)

Russia’s Renat Khavalov came into 2022 as the EFC bantamweight champion. He ended the year with two more title defenses against two solid opponents. The thing with Khavalov is he may not be fighting as much but is fighting nothing but legit competition. Khavalov is a stellar prospect and is a great fighter to highlight in the division.

Flyweight prospect of the year: Joshua Van (7-1)

Nobody expected coming into 2022 that a 21-year-old kid born in Myanmar would be the best flyweight of the year. Living in Texas since he was eleven all his fights have been for Fury FC based out of Texas. Van has been very active and in 2022 he went 5-0. Nobody expected him to beat Paris Moran but he did and he finished Moran. To cap off such a fantastic career year he ended 2022 winning the vacant Fury FC title. Van ended 2021 with a loss and won five straight in 2022 finishing all opponents.
