Las Vegas, NV – UFC heavyweight Chris Daukaus comes into UFC 282 taking on Jairzinho Rozenstruik in a fight with a lot on the line this Saturday night.
Daukaus (12-5) is coming off two knockout losses in a row and needs to avoid a third straight loss in order to stay off the roster chopping block.
“Sh*t happens man. It’s the heavyweight division. Just in fighting in general you really can’t dwell on those losses. You have to take every fight as they come. That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing,” Daukaus told Cageside Press among other media on Wednesday.
“Specially with this fight. So whatever happens, happens. I’m definitely looking to win obviously. Not trying to fly out somewhere and get my ass kicked so definitely looking to f*ck somebody up.”
Daukaus is a former police officer and has dealt with life-and-death scenarios that would seemingly make losing a fight seem pretty bland, but it’s still a fighter’s life he lives.
“After you lose, the first month-and-a-half, I want to kill myself because it f*cking sucks. Everybody’s telling me how bad I suck and like everyone’s like sh*tting on you because that’s what people do. You’re only as good as your last fight, and my last two fights I’ve sucked,” he said.
“You just have to get through that. I mean it sucks, but yeah you have to get through that and I’ve been working on that since my last one and I’m here to change that.”
Rozenstruik (12-4) is one of the more feared strikers in the heavyweight division holding knockout victories over Junior Dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, and Augusto Sakai to name a few.
“He’s definitely super skilled. He’s definitely dangerous in a lot of positions, but we’ve been working this camp to take away and limit that danger. I mean that’s really what…I’m not going in there and just banging it out with this dude. That would be dumb on my part,” Daukaus said.
“If that happens, I failed at my job, and I should probably look for a new career. But, you know, saying that…I really do like this. I like this matchup, but I have to be smart with everything.”
