San Diego, CA – UFC strawweight Angela Hill doesn’t always get decision to go her way, but at UFC San Diego she pulled one off and in her adopted hometown on Saturday night.
“High emotions. I really wanted to win here for sure, but also that three fight lose streak that’s the first time that’s happened in my career. It was really important to get off of that skid and prove that I’ve just been fighting tough competition,” Hill told Cageside Press among other media at her post-fight scrum.
She faced up-and-comer Loopy Godinez who came into UFC San Diego with a lot of support from fans not only worldwide but locally in the city as well.
“Loopy is one of the toughest prospects, but she’s still a prospect. I still have that veteran experience over her and people forget what I did to the people that we both fought. So I’m just happy to get this win and prove that I’m still a dog in this game. Onto the next,” she said.
Godinez came out hot in the first round, but Hill took over in the second and never relinquished control of the fight.
“I’m a better striker. Of course my experience is going to play well for me in the later rounds. I can see her fading I can see that she was sucking gas. She was trying to toss me around like a rag doll so that was like a lot of energy that she was expending. I do think she’s a really great prospect. I don’t admitting that about a lot of fighters in my weight class, but I do,” said Hill.
“When she came onto the scene and I got matched with her I was like ‘Ah I hate this!’ because I just got out-wrestled in my last fight. This is a big hump for me to get over.”
Hill wasn’t just talking about Godinez or wrestlers as a whole.
“Shutting out the doubters. Shutting out all the people that thinking that I didn’t have what it took to fight someone just because they’re new on the scene and they’re the shiny new toy that everyone’s excited about. Like, get excited about me too I’m not going anywhere.”
Hill mentioned that she had a call out ready for her post-fight interview in the cage, but she wasn’t asked about it.
“I want to fight Karolina Kowalkiewicz in Madison Square Garden. She got to fight there already against Joanna (Jedrzejczyk) and that’s where my fight career started. So they just started announcing fights. I would love that to be my next fight in November. Hopefully I can convince someone to let that happen,” Hill said
“Other than that I’m ready for the next person who thinks they could take this.”
