UFC Vegas 59: Sergey Spivak Talks Move To Las Vegas, Looking For Top 10 Next

Las Vegas, NV – UFC heavyweight Sergey Spivak has made the move to Las Vegas just in time to prepare for his bout against Augusto Sakai at UFC Vegas 59 on Saturday night.

“Yeah I’m here for a long time. I’ve come here many times now. I really like training here, I like the sparring partners here, I like the places where I can train here. Plus a lot of the fights are here so I don’t have to always switch the climate and adjust to that. I like being here in Vegas,” Spivak told Cageside Press among other media through a translator on Wednesday.

As far as the weather goes however, Spivak had other thoughts.

“To be honest I’m waiting for the snow to come out,” he said with a smile.

With the change of scenery and training Spivak has been posting a lot of boxing videos on his social media.

“It’s not just boxing (what I’ve been working on) it just happens that social media got some of those days where I was boxing. Actually I’m concentrating on all aspects of the fight,” Spivak said.

At UFC Vegas 59 he will meet Sakai (15-4-1) who is looking for a much needed win as he comes into the UFC APEX on a three-fight losing streak.

“He’s a great fighter. I mean he’s been to top 10 before. He’s got big opponents that he’s been through, but honestly the most important part is what I think about myself,” said Spivak.

“And I think that I’m going to come for the victory.”

With the heavyweight division in need of new contenders it is natural for an up-and-coming heavyweight to keep an eye on the rankings and the possibility of a move up.

“I’m still Sergey I’ still not going to go ahead of myself and say ‘It doesn’t matter what happens in this fight’. I’m not going to look over this opponent. I’m going to concentrate on him for now, and then after the win I can see what happens. Of course I’m looking for the top 10,” said Spivak.

With Spivak coming off a TKO win over Greg Hardy and Sakai known for knocking opponents out, fans are looking forward to a possible early finish in this fight.

“I’m ready for all three rounds, but then I’m ready for anything,” Spivak said.

“If the fight is going to be quick, great, if not we’ll see how long he lasts.”
