Commerce, CA — Former UFC strawweight Kay Hansen is hoping to step into the Invicta FC cage for her promotional return later this year.
The recently married Hansen (7-6) last competed at UFC 273 in April, losing a unanimous decision to Piera Rodriguez. The bout marked the end of her UFC contract, and with no new offer forthcoming, Hansen instead inked a deal with Invicta FC, where she started her career.
However, some nagging injuries have pushed off her next fight, she told Cageside Press during Friday’s LFA 137, which saw Hansen in attendance in Commerce, California in support of friend and training partner Alandria Brown.
“I’m just dealing with some health things right now, so I’m putting those first,” Hansen revealed. “I’ve been super-active since I was 16 in this sport, and I’m only 22. So I’m taking just a little bit of time just to kind of like settle down some injuries I’ve had that I’ve let build up over a lot of time.”
“I’m aiming for the end of the year or early next year,” she added.
While Hansen is appreciative of fans eager to see her get back in the cage, “health comes first,” she noted. “I’ve dedicated a lot of my life to this sport, and I’m planning on dedicating a lot more of my life to this sport, so I need to make sure I’m doing things right.”
