The anticipated third bout between UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former champion Max Holloway is targeted for UFC 276 on July 02.
A battle between the two best featherweights in the world is being targeted for the UFC’s biggest show of the year as featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former title holder Max Holloway are expected to meet at UFC 276 on July 02. This will be their third meeting, with Volkanovski having won the first two. Ariel Helwani was first to report the news.
Volkanovski (24-1) will be looking to extend his win-streak to 22 and further cement his place as the best fighter at 145 pounds. Besides his victories over Holloway, “The Great” also has names such as former champion José Aldo and former title challengers Brian Ortega, Chad Mendes, and Chan Sung Jung on his resume. Most recently, he dominated Jung (aka “The Korean Zombie”) in April in what was a blistering one-sided affair even by Volkanovski’s standards.
Holloway (23-6) will look to reclaim his title for the second time after coming up short twice in razor-close bouts with Volkanovski. After putting together a 13 fight win-streak that had many considering him to be the best featherweight of all-time, Holloway lost the belt to Volkanovski in 2019 and came up short in the immediate rematch in 2020. In 2021, “Blessed” turned in a statistically brilliant performance against Calvin Kattar and prevailed in a Fight of the Year contenderer against Yair Rodriguez last fall.
No headliner has been made official for UFC 276 though multiple championship bouts have been connected to the date. The event is scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
