UFC Vegas 53: Krzysztof Jotko Wants Brunson Retirement Fight, Strickland Rematch

Las Vegas, NV – UFC middleweight Krzysztof Jotko came into UFC Vegas 53 on a mission to continue winning and did so when he earned a unanimous decision over Gerald Meerschaert on Saturday night.

“I was prepared to knock him out and I tried to knock him out very hard, but a fight is a fight. He’s a tough guy. We had a good fight, and I do everything to win the fight. After two rounds I was thinking it was maybe 50-50 I was not sure I’m winning. So the last round I decide to take him down two times so I know I win this fight,” Jotko told reporters in his post-fight media scrum.

“I always think I can do better. It would be better if I knocked him out, but it is what is it. I back to home with win so this is also very nice, and I’m very happy with this.”

At first Jotko gave no names for his next bout, but then one name was offered up by a member of the media and he liked the suggestion.

“If (Derek) Brunson want to fight for his last fight of his career. I respect him. We supposed to fight, I don’t know, in 2018 in Germany, but he was injured so we never fight. So if he want to fight me, let’s go,” Jotko said.

Maybe he wants to get one back against a certain highly-ranked former opponent that beat him by decision in May 2021.

“Sean Strickland! I like him. I like him, but when I fight him I was very horrible condition. My stomach was very bad, I was throw up all camp, I can’t make weight. I have horrible camp I can’t even put together myself, but I still go to the fight. He still win in a decision,” Jotko said.

“I know now I don’t have a chance to fight him because he is like #4 or #5, but in the future I hope so we can fight. I have a big respect to him and I like his talking sh*t when he talk.”
