PFL 2 2022: Renan Ferreira Ready For Jones, Wants Werdum Rematch

Arlington, TX – PFL heavyweight Renan Ferreira is back for another season in the promotion and takes on Jamelle Jones to kick off 2022.

“I have a lot of gratitude for the PFL for giving me this opportunity. Being able to fight for a million dollars again is very important to me,” Ferreira told reporters through a translator on Tuesday.

Ferreira is currently on a three-fight win streak with wins over Carl Seumanutafa via decision and a knockout win over Stuart Austin in the 2021 season.

Earlier in the year Ferreira had a KO win over Fabricio Werdum but it was overturned after the result was appealed. The New Jersey Athletic Control Board ruled the bout a no contest after video was reviewed showing that Ferreira had tapped while caught in a triangle choke, but the referee had missed it. Werdum let the choke go, Ferreira was able to get out, and finished Werdum with strikes.

With Werdum now pulling back on his decision to retire from MMA, and leaving the door open for a return, Ferreira is willing to face the MMA legend again eventually.

“Absolutely I’d love to get that one done again, make sure that there’s really no doubt this time around. Werdum is the great fighter, I’m a big fan of his, but now is my time. I want to show everyone, showcase my work once again,” Ferreira said.

The Werdum rematch may come again, but in front of Ferrira now is Jamelle Jones, a wrestling-based fighter coming off a loss to 2021’s eventual champion Bruno Cappelozza.

“Jamelle’s a tough guy tough opponent. Heavy on the wrestling department so I trained a lot in order to be able to stuff his takedowns and keep him from implementing his game, and walk out with the W,” said Ferreira.

“It’s a culmination of all the work I’ve been putting in and it would just go to show the fans and the public that I’m here to fight against the best.”
