The featured prelim at UFC Vegas 52 on Saturday turned out to be the first bout on the main card after a fight was lost just a couple fights into the night. With the loss of Alexander Romanov vs. Chase Sherman, it was Canada’s Marc-Andre Barriault, stepping in against Jordan Wright on short notice, opening up the main card.
Wright had originally been matched up with Roman Kopylov for a middleweight showdown on the Las Vegas-based card, but with Kopylov replaced by the “Power Bar,” the fight shifted to a 190 pound catchweight.
Right off the bat Wright began throwing leg kicks and jabs while Barriault put the pressure on him, forcing Wright to move laterally. Wright then shot in for a takedown, stuffed by Barriault momentarily, but then completed it. After landing some shots from top position Wright stayed on Barriault when they got back to the feet.
Wright next attempted a high-crotch takedown, left his head way too high and got caught in a guillotine. Barriault tightened it and forced the tap from Wright, giving the former his first career submission finish.
The win gets Marc-Andre Barriault back in the win column, after a loss to Chidi Njokuani earlier this year.
Official Result: Marc-Andre Barriault def. Jordan Wright via submission (guillotine) R1 2:36
