Houston, TX – In a time when the biggest MMA promotion on the planet continues to receive criticism over how it pays it’s fighters it can be rare to hear stories of a different side of the UFC.
UFC lightweight Bobby Green shed some light on how the UFC helped him during a difficult time.
“The one thing that I didn’t get to share, my brother that died, I didn’t have enough money to pay for his funeral. The UFC paid for that. That’s why I’m so loyal to them. They’ve been doing things for me that no companies ever did. The put the money for my brother’s funeral and they took care of that. I’ll always be loyal to them and thankful for them,” Green told the media at UFC 271 media day on Wednesday.
Green (28-12-1) takes on Nasrat Haqparast (13-4) in the opener for Saturday’s PPV event.
“I saw a couple of his fights, I’ve seen him around. Interesting how he moves. Yeah, I’ve seen him before,” Green said.
Haqparast is known to push the action against his opponents and prefers to stand and trade. In his previous fight at UFC 266 Haqparast was defeated by Dan Hooker with a heavy wrestling game plan which kept Nasrat from using his stand up skillset.
“You know I’m a guy that tries to come out and fight. I guess he wants to try to push the fight. Let’s get it! That’s kind of dope. I looked at his last fight I know his, I think his mother died, and so I was watching I was there live. Crazy part I was like, ‘I want to fight THAT guy!’ But I put it in my head ‘I don’t know if that’s him.’ I think that he was going through something that fight. I don’t think he fought like his actual self. I think he’s better than that. But I want to fight him and I got exactly what I wanted.”
“I don’t do no hugging. If I’m in there I’m going to be f*cking cracking, or slamming him on his head. Ain’t no hugging around here, I don’t waste people’s time. You know people pay their hard earned money to see me fight, and I put on shows.”
