The first UFC card of February put the focus on the middleweight division. A lot of focus, in fact.
UFC Vegas 47 featured a main event between top 185lb’ers Jack Hermansson and Sean Strickland. With Strickland on a five-fight win streak, a victory over “The Joker” could land him right at the top of the division. Hermansson, who had been trading wins and losses over the past couple of years, was looking to make it two in a row after a win over prospect Edmen Shahbazyan last May.
The middleweight fun didn’t stop there. Diaz protege Nick Maximov faced Punahele Soriano in the co-main event, Sam Alvey was paired up with short-notice replacement Brendan Allen (this wound up resulting in a 205lb affair between two 185’ers), and Chidi Njokuani made his promotional debut opposite Canada’s Marc-Andre Barriault.
