UFC Vegas 46’s Brandon Royval Believes Rogerio Bontorin Tapped: “I Might Be On Crack, I Don’t Know”

Las Vegas, NV — Brandon Royval thinks opponent Rogerio Bontorin tapped during their fight on Saturday at the UFC Apex.

Royval (13-6) snapped the first two-fight losing streak of his career at UFC Vegas 46 and kept his No. 5 flyweight ranking in the process. He defeated Bontorin via a close split decision.

In the third round of their fight, it looked like Bontorin might have tapped while being trapped in an armbar. The commentators debated it on the broadcast, and of course, social media was going crazy. Royval himself thought his opponent tapped.

“I’m a little upset, but I’m so happy to be back in the win column, and ah, f*ck we pulled it off, so whatever. He tapped! What the f*ck was that about? You see that? Did you think he tapped? Sorry for cussing; I know I’m not supposed to be doing that. I thought he tapped, I might be on crack, but I don’t know,” Royval told Cageside Press during his post-fight interview.

During both his in-cage and backstage post-fight interview, Royval was very emotional. The fighter nicknamed “Raw Dawg” was apologizing because he didn’t get a finish and saying that he wants to continue to be the most exciting flyweight in the UFC.

While he didn’t get the finish, and it snapped his 100% finish rate inside the UFC, he was happy he got the win.

“Um, I don’t ever want to go to a decision, and I don’t ever like to drop rounds. I felt like I fought sloppy, but I feel like ever since I’ve been in the UFC, I’ve been taking myself so seriously because I’ve been winning against top 10 opponents. As soon as you win against a top 10 opponent, you have another top 10 opponent,” Royval said. “Man, I just haven’t had fun in about two and half years since I’ve been in the UFC, so it’s like, enjoy it, winning is hard, winning against a top 10 opponent is hard. I’m just happy to be back here [in the media room] with you guys. I’m going to try and enjoy today and enjoy the moment.”

Royval is also looking ahead — and told us that he will stay on weight if either of the fighters drop out of the UFC 270 flyweight title fight.
