Las Vegas, NV – If you were looking forward to UFC welterweights Jake Matthews and Jeremiah Wells throwing down in the octagon your wait just got a little longer.

Wells posted on his Instagram account that one of his cornermen has tested positive for COVID.

“Sorry everyone, I just found out that my fight is canceled due to exposure of Covid. My test result came back negative, but one of my corner men had a result of positive. Thank you to everyone that supported me, helped with this fight camp and cheer me on,” Wells wrote on IG.

Wells (9-2) is coming off a KO win over Warlley Alves back in June. With just one fight in the UFC Wells was looking for a big win over a former up-and-comer in Matthews.

Matthews (17-5) last bout was back in March against Sean Brady where he lost by submission (Arm-triangle choke).

No word as to whether the UFC will rebook this bout for a later date.

UFC Vegas 44 is headlined by a bantamweight showdown between #4 Rob Font and #5 Jose Aldo from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The event will be live on ESPN and ESPN+.
