ONE Championship’s NextGen III aired Friday, and brought with it the promotional debut of former UFC flyweight Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks.
Brooks (16-2, 1NC) had been a victim of the UFC’s infamous 2018 flyweight cuts, which saw the 125lb division on the brink of being given the axe. While Henry Cejudo winning the belt, then claiming a second title as well, “saved” the division, Brooks, unlike a few other notable names, was never brought back into the fold.
Instead, Brooks dropped to strawweight for fights in RIZIN (plus a flyweight bout under the Warrior Xtreme Cagefighting banner). Having left the UFC off a win, Brooks is 3-0, 1NC in his last four fights, and made his ONE Championship debut at NextGen III against Lito Adiwang.
Also on the card, notable names including Alex “Little Rock” Silva and Peter Buist.
