Roman Faraldo put the entire Bellator welterweight division on notice on Friday.
Faraldo (6-0) put himself on the Knockout of the Year list with his glorious flying knee knockout of Robert Turnquest at Bellator 271.
The flying knee knockout just happened to land on Jorge Masvidal’s 37th birthday, who might have the most iconic flying knee of all time. Masvidal is also a teammate with Faraldo, and after his win, Faraldo gave him a shoutout.
“Shoutout to Jorge, happy birthday, bro. Flying knee for the second year in a row, my man,” Faraldo told media during his Bellator 271 post-fight interview. The American Top Team product gave thanks to his striking coach Paulino Hernandez for drilling that knee, not Masvidal.
“It’s not necessarily working with Jorge; it’s our striking coach. At the end of the day, it’s Jorge, me, and everyone who works with Pauli. It comes from Pauli, those skills, that flying kee was drilled over and over-me and Paulino. Preparation makes perfect.”
As for who is next, Faraldo had a couple of names ready to go. In his immediate interview in the cage, Faraldo called out No. 3 ranked Jason Jackson, who was in attendance due to the event being in Florida, where both men train.
Faraldo listed a couple more names on his hit list when asked.
“I called out Jason Jackson; I like me and him would be a great fight. The Russian guy [Andrey Koreshkov], he just beat Sabah [Homasi]; I think that would be a good fight. The homie who just fought ‘Venom’ Page [Douglas Lima] would be good. There are a couple of other guys; I mean, it’s the top 10, all those guys whoever I fight will be a good fight. So, I’m down for whoever it is; I’m ready to go,” Faraldo said.
When asked if he had a message for the welterweight contenders, he simply said, “if you didn’t know, you know now”
