DWCS: Kleydson Rodrigues Plans on Sticking with Flyweight Division

Las Vegas, NV — Flyweight Kleydson Rodrigues was one of four contract winners on the latest episode of Dana White’s Contender Series.

Following the fight, a unanimous decision win over Santo Curatolo, the realization that he was now a UFC fighter hadn’t quite hit home, Rodrigues admitted.

“As we say in Brazil, the coin hasn’t dropped yet in the pay phone. That’s what we say. I haven’t processed this yet,” Rodrigues (7-1) told media outlets including Cageside Press following the victory. “It’s still very new to me, but very thankful, and very happy to have gotten the contract.”

Rodrigues appears to be a large flyweight, and it seems like a move to bantamweight might be something to consider in future. The Brazilian is focused on flyweight for the time being, however.

“I feel really good about this division. I want to keep in the division, and I really don’t [cut] that much weight,” Rodrigues said. “When I [cut] weight, I lose like eight kilos, talking about double that in pounds. But I want to keep in the same division for now.”

As for making his UFC debut, Rodrigues said he has “no specific date” in mind. “I’ve just got to wait, and I do believe that pretty soon, I’m going to be fighting.”
