Jonathan Martinez struggled at the scales Friday morning at the UFC Vegas 36 official weigh-in. Now, he’s out of the event entirely.
Following a botched weight cut that saw him miss the bantamweight limit by 2lbs, Martinez reportedly suffered medical complications that have forced him off the card. ESPN was first to report the news. Rojo later confirmed the development on social media.
The last fighter to weigh in, Martinez did not hit the scales a second time after missing the mark late in the window. It is not the 27-year old’s first time missing weight.
In August 2020, Martinez weighed in at 140.5lbs, well over the bantamweight limit. His fight that night with Frankie Saenz moved forward; Martinez won via TKO. In his very next fight, he competed as a featherweight opposite Thomas Almeida, winning a unanimous decision.
Last time out, returning to the bantamweight division, Martinez was knocked out by Davey Grant. Prior to joining the UFC, Martinez had competed as low as flyweight.
Marcelo Rojo is unfortunately left without a dance partner with Martinez off the card. Rojo made his promotional debut in March on short notice, losing to Charles Jourdain in a featherweight fight. He had been lined up for a bout with Kevin Croom at the end of August, only for Croom to withdraw.
UFC Vegas 36 is now set to move forward with nine fights:

Paddy Pimblett vs. Luigi Vendramini
