A pair of bantamweights will collide in October, looking to continue their winning ways.
MMA Fighting was the first to report the news that Chris Guiterrez will fight Felipe Colares on October 9 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Both fighters would confirm the match-up on their Instagram stories.
Gutierrez (16-4) is riding a four-fight win streak since losing his UFC debut in 2018, with a draw against Cody Durden thrown in there. Most recently, in February, he snapped Andre Ewell’s two-fight streak by defeating via unanimous decision at UFC 258. “El Guapo” is getting close to a top 15 opponent, and a win over his next opponent should set him up.
Corales (10-2) got back into the win column with a win over Luke Sanders at UFC on ESPN: Reyes vs. Procházka in May. He defeated him via unanimous decision and gave him his pink slip in the process. In his only fight in 2020, he lost to Montel Jackson via unanimous decision. “Cabocão” has alternated wins and losses in the UFC so far.
No location, venue, or broadcast plan has been announced for the October 9 event.
The October 9 fight card now includes the following reported bouts:
- Chris Gutierrez vs. Felipe Colares
- Lupita Godinez vs. Sam Hughes
- Laureano Staropoli vs. Jamie Pickett
