A pair of lightweights at very different points of their respective careers will collide at a UFC event in August in August.
MMA Fighting was the first to report that Austin Hubbard will fight UFC veteran Vinc Pichel on August 21 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Both fighters would confirm the booking on social media.
Hubbard (13-5) got back in the win column last month with a unanimous decision victory over UFC newcomer Dakota Bush, who stepped up on short notice at UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Gastelum. Before his win over Bush, “Thud” went 1-2 in 2020. Hubbard hasn’t won two straight in the UFC yet and will be looking to get a streak going.
Pichel (13-2) is riding a two-fight win streak since his loss to Gregor Gillespie. Last August at UFC 252, “From Hell” returned from hip surgery that kept him out of action for nearly a year. He defeated Jim Miller via unanimous decision after nearly ending up submitted himself. Before that, Pichel handed Roosevelt Roberts his first professional loss in 2019 at UFC on ESPN 3: N’Gannou vs. Dos Santos.
No location, venue, or broadcast details have yet to be announced by the promotion for UFC’s August 21 event. No main event has been announced yet.
So far, the August 21 fight card looks like this:
- Fabio Cherant vs. William Knight
- Austin Hubbard vs. Vic Pichel
- Chase Sherman vs. Parker Porter
