The crown jewel of professional mixed martial arts is arguably the UFC heavyweight title, and that belt was on the line atop UFC 260. Stipe Miocic, in his second reign as UFC heavyweight champion, had established himself as the best big man the promotion had ever seen. But as he had been in their first meeting in 2018, Francis Ngannou remained the biggest threat in the division.
Their rematch at UFC 260 was billed as the “biggest, baddest” rematch the UFC had seen. For once, that didn’t seem all that far from the truth. Ngannou’s recent run had seen him knock out opponent after opponent, including two former champions, and two top contenders. Miocic, meanwhile, had defeated Daniel Cormier in two out of three fights in their trilogy, which played out back-to-back-to-back.
Also on Saturday’s card, former welterweight champ Tyron Woodley was looking to snap a three-fight skid when he went up against Vicente Luque. Sean O’Malley also returned Saturday, looking to bounce back from the first loss of his career when he took on the slumping Thomas Almeida.
