UFC Vegas 22 has lost its co-main event.
Early Saturday afternoon, UFC officials announced that the lightweight co-headliner between Gregor Gillespie and Brad Riddell had been removed from the card. “Due to COVID-19 protocols, the lightweight bout between Gregor Gillespie and Brad Riddell has been postponed to a later date,” a message posted to the promotion’s official website stated.
No specifics as to the nature of the COVID-19 protocols in question were given. No word on what later date might be available was given either.
The bout was the second scratched from the event in roughly twenty-four hours. On Friday, Julija Stoliarenko collapsed twice during the official weigh-in, resulting in her bantamweight fight with Julia Avila being cancelled.
With the loss of Gillespie vs. Riddell, the UFC Vegas 22 (UFC on ESPN 21) card moves forward with ten fights. While no official word was given in the update provided by the promotion on Saturday, the bout order on UFC.com now shows welterweights Song Kenan and Max Griffin in the penultimate fight of the night.
