A bout between UFC bantamweights Marion Reneau and Macy Chaisson just doesn’t seem to want to happen – having now been delayed for the second time this month.
Originally the fight was scheduled to take place February 6 on the fight card headlined by Alexander Volkov and Alistair Overeem. It was then postponed until February 27, which is next weekend’s card headlined by Jair Rozenstruik and Cyril Gane, due to a positive COVID-19 test from Reneau. Reneau seemed to have recovered quickly from the illness and was ready to go for next weekend. Her social media was filled with positive posts of training and cardio leading up to the showdown later this month. However, according to a recent post from “The Belizean Bruiser,” that date too has been shifted, this time due to her opponent.
“If you haven’t heard the fight for Feb 27th has been moved to March 20 due to my opponent having an injury,” Reneau wrote. “The mission has and WILL NOT CHANGE! Only the date changes… again.” This is especially bad luck for Reneau who has had five of her bouts cancelled or rescheduled in the last two years alone.
While not confirmed, Reneau cites an injury to Chiasson as the primary reason for the shift again. The nature of the injury was not disclosed. On the bright side, whatever happened appears not to be too serious, as Reneau also states that with the shift in date, comes no shift in opponent. Instead, the top 10 bantamweights are still set for their showdown.
Reneau and Chiasson will now square off on the card headlined by Kevin Holland and Derek Brunson on March 20. The UFC has not officially announced the postponement as of yet. The event, set to take place in Las Vegas at the UFC Apex, has the following fights on deck:
